How the crime index works

Each city gets a score from 0 to 100 that sums up crime across seven categories: petty theft, violent crime, vehicle theft, burglary, drug crime, corruption and safety at night. Lower scores are safer. The trend chart shows each city’s score from 2020 to 2024 next to its current 2026 score.

Scores are checked against official and independent sources whenever new data is published. A crime index is a guide, not a guarantee: crime varies a lot between neighbourhoods, so check local advice before you travel.

  • 30–49 Moderate
